excuse、forgive 和 pardon 可以接受詞 + 動名詞或 for + 受詞 + 動名詞（兩者在口語上都很常見）。這三個動詞也可以接所有格形容詞 + 動名詞，但這種用法比較正式，在英語口語上不太會用到，這類非口語用法的例句都會標上星號 (*)。excuse、forgive 和 pardon 也可以接名詞。
