特徵的比較
在對兩種事物的特徵做比較時，我們會用到一套標準規則。
特徵相等時
要比較兩個具有相等特徵的事物非常簡單，我們會用這樣的公式來表達：
as + 描述特徵的形容詞 + as
舉例
- Tom is as tall as his brother.
- I am as hungry as you are.
- Sally is as nice as Jane.
特徵不相等時
如果兩個特徵不相等，可以用以下三種句型來表達，無論用哪一種，意思都是差不多的。
第一種：
not as + 描述特徵的形容詞 + as
第二種：
less + 描述特徵的形容詞 + than：這種句型會頻繁地用在某些形容詞。
第三種：
形容詞比較級 + than：此結構需要改變詞組的順序，或用相對的形容詞來表達。
舉例
- Mont Blanc is not as high as Mount Everest.
- Mont Blanc is less high than Mount Everest.
- Mont Blanc is lower than Mount Everest.
- Mount Everest is higher than Mont Blanc.
- Norway is not as sunny as Thailand.
- Norway is less sunny than Thailand.
- Thailand is sunnier than Norway.
- Norway is cloudier than Thailand.
